PEARL'S SWEET PICKLES 
2 gallons cut med. cucumbers
1/4 c. pickling salt
Water to cover cucumbers
1/2 gallon white vinegar plus 1 qt.
1 tsp. oil of clove
1 tsp. oil of cinnamon
7 lb. sugar
2 tbsp. alum

Mix together water and salt. Stir until dissolved and pour over cut cucumbers. Let set for 3 days. Stir daily.

On third day, wash thoroughly and cover with boiling water. Let set overnight. Next day (4th), drain water and add more boiling water to pickles and add alum. Let set overnight.

On fifth day, mix 1/2 gallon plus 1 quart Heinz white vinegar, sugar, oil of cloves and oil of cinnamon and boil. While solution is boiling, have 8 pint jars boiling. Let both solution and jars come to a boil, then place pickles in jars and pour solution over pickles. Seal and set for 5 more days and they are ready to eat.
