COLD OVEN CAKE 
3 c. sugar
1/2 c. shortening
2 sticks butter
1/4 tsp. salt
2 tbsp. vanilla butter and nut flavoring
3 c. flour
1 sm. can milk, add water to make 1 c.
5 eggs

Cream shortening, butter, sugar, and salt. Add eggs, one at a time. Add flour and milk alternately, ending with flour. Fold in flavoring. START IN A COLD OVEN. Bake in ungreased tube pan for 1 hour and 45 minutes at 325 degrees. Remove from pan immediately. (Run a sharp knife around cake first.)
