MILKLESS, EGGLESS, BUTTERLESS
CAKE
 
1 c. brown sugar
1 c. water
1/3 c. shortening
1 c. raisins
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. cinnamon
2 c. sifted flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt

Boil sugar, water, shortening, raisins, nutmeg and cinnamon for 3 minutes. Cool thoroughly. Add flour that has been sifted with baking powder, soda and salt. Bake in square pan for 35 minutes. 1/2 cup nuts may also be added, if desired.
