1/2 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
1 egg
1 1/2 c. unsweetened applesauce
2 tsp. baking soda
2 c. flour
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. ground cloves
1 c. raisins

Cream together the shortening, sugar, and egg. Then mix in large bowl the applesauce and soda. Sift flour, cinnamon, and cloves. Mix all ingredients together, except raisins. Add raisins last. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 to 30 minutes in greased 11 x 7 inch pan.

Optional: Frost with cream cheese frosting.
