POPPY SEED CAKE 
1/2 c. poppy seed
1 c. milk

Pour milk over poppy seed and let it stand. 3 whole eggs 2 c. flour 3/4 c. shortening 2 tsp. baking powder 1 tsp. vanilla

Cream sugar and shortening. Add 3 egg yolks, beat well. Add flour, baking powder and vanilla. Add poppy seed. Stirring well. Fold in 3 well beaten egg whites. Pour it in two well greased 9 inch round pans and bake 40 to 45 minutes at 350 degrees.

FROSTING WITH BROWN SUGAR:

4 egg yolks, well beaten
1 c. brown sugar
Pinch salt
3/4 c. milk thickened with 2 tbsp. cornstarch

Cook slowly until thickened. Add 1/2 cup walnuts. Frost. Makes 8 servings.
