OVEN SWISS STEAK | |
1 1/2 lbs. round steak 1/4 c. flour 1 tsp. salt 1 (16 oz.) can stewed tomatoes 1/2 c. chopped celery 1/2 c. chopped carrot 2 tbsp. chopped onion 1/2 tsp. Worcestershire sauce 1/4 c. shredded cheese Cut meat into 4 portions. Mix flour and salt; pound into meat. Set aside any remaining flour. Brown meat in small amount of hot shortening. Place meat in shallow baking dish. Blend remaining flour with drippings in skillet. Add remaining ingredients, except cheese. Cook, stirring constantly until mixture boils. Pour over meat. Cover and bake in 350 degree oven for 2 hours or until tender. Top with cheese. Return to oven for a few minutes. Makes 4 servings. |
