NORWEGIAN KRINGLA 
1 1/4 c. sugar
1/2 c. shortening
2 eggs, well beaten
1 c. buttermilk
1 tsp. baking soda
3 1/2 c. flour
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. lemon extract
1 tsp. orange extract

Mix ingredients in order given. Dissolve soda in buttermilk. Chill dough in refrigerator overnight.

Roll out small amounts of dough at a time. Roll to thickness of a pencil and about ten inches long. Shape into figure 8 on lightly greased cookie sheet.

Bake 10 minutes at 425 degrees or until light brown. Remove from oven. Dip top of kringle in cold water.

Makes about 60.
