ICE BOX OATMEAL COOKIES 
1 stick butter
1/2 c. shortening
1 c. brown sugar
1 c. granulated sugar
2 well beaten eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
1 1/2 c flour
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
3 c. quick cooking oatmeal
1/2 c. chopped nuts

Thoroughly cream shortening and butter and sugars; add eggs and vanilla. Beat well. Add sifted dry ingredients. Add oatmeal and nuts; mix well. Shape into log, wrap in waxed paper and chill overnight. Slice 1/4 inch thick and place on cookie sheet. Bake at 350 for 10 minutes. Makes 5 dozen cookies
