BURNT SUGAR/CARAMEL CAKE 
1/2 c. fat
1/2 c. sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
2 eggs
1 c. cold water
1/8 tsp. salt
2 1/2 c. flour
2 1/2 tsp. baking powder
4 tbsp. thick caramel syrup

Cream fat and sugar 1 minute. Add remaining ingredients and beat 5 minutes. This is absolutely necessary - so be sure to do it. Bake in oven at 350 degrees.

To make syrup - 1 cup white sugar in skillet until brown. Add water and cook until thick.
