BESSIE'S CHOCOLATE OATMEAL
COOKIES
 
2 c. sugar
1/2 c. butter
1/2 c. cocoa
1/2 c. milk
3 c. quick-cooking oats
1/2 c. chopped nuts
1 tsp. vanilla

Mix sugar, butter, cocoa and milk in saucepan. Bring to a boil quickly. Reduce to medium heat and boil 3 to 4 minutes or "soft ball" stage. Remove from heat, stir in oatmeal, nuts, and vanilla. Drop by teaspoon onto waxed paper; let stand until hardened. Store in refrigerator, if desired. Makes about 3 dozen cookies.
