1/2 c. shortening (butter)
1 1/2 c. sugar

Mix well. Add: 1 tsp. vanilla 2 eggs

Beat until well blended. Mix in alternately: 1/2 c. milk 2 tsp. baking soda, dissolved in milk

Stir together. Turn beaters to slow and pour 1 cup boiling water over batter. Stir together. Pour into greased 9"x13" cake pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes or until done. Cool.

FROSTING:

1 c. brown sugar
1/4 c. milk
1/2 stick butter

Bring to full boil. Then add 1 (6 oz.) package chocolate chips and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla. Stir until cool. Spread on cake.
