TENNESSEE BISCUITS | |
1/2 c. warm water 1 pkg. yeast 3/4 c. shortening 5 c. flour 1 tsp. baking soda 1 tsp. salt 3 tbsp. baking powder 3 tbsp. sugar 2 c. buttermilk Dissolve yeast in water. Combine dry ingredients and cut in shortening until it looks like meal. Add yeast mix and buttermilk and stir lightly until all the flour is moistened. Do not over mix. Place in a lightly greased covered bowl and place in refrigerator until ready for use. When ready for use, roll to 3/4" thick, cut in rounds and bake on greased cookie sheet 12 minutes (or until golden brown) at 400 degrees. Dough will keep in refrigerator for several days. |
