WHOLE GRAIN BREAD | |
1 pkg. yeast 1/4 c. water, 105-115 degrees 1 beaten egg 1/4 c. melted butter 2 1/2 c. lukewarm water 1/4 to 1/2 c. sugar or honey 4 c. whole grain flour 4 c. all purpose flour Dissolve yeast in hot water for 3-5 minutes. Beat together egg, butter, warm water and sugar or honey. Add to yeast. Add flour 1 cup at a time without sifting. Mix and knead until it is smooth and elastic and full of bubbles. Place dough in greased bowl, turn and cover with cloth. Let rise in warm place until doubled (1 hour). Punch down. Divide into 3 loaves. Place in pans. Let rise to double. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes. Mmmmm - what a treat! |
