CHOCOLATE - SCOTCH BARS 
1 c. flour, sifted
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/8 tsp. baking soda
1/3 c. melted shortening
1 c. brown sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
1 egg, beaten
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 pkg. chocolate bits
1/2 c. chopped nuts

Mix shortening and sugar together; add egg and vanilla. Add sifted dry ingredients; mix well. Add chips and nuts last. Bake at 350 degrees for 20-25 minutes in 9 x 9 x 2 inch pan; cool in pan. Recipe can be doubled and baked in 13 x 9 x 2 inch pan.
