HELEN'S FRUIT JUMBLES | |
1 c. sugar 1/2 c. milk 1/2 c. lard or butter 1 tsp. baking soda 1/2 tsp. baking powder Grated rind of 1 lemon Juice of 1 lemon Vanilla 1/2 c. coconut 1/2 c. raisins 2 eggs Flour Mother always rolled out her jumbles but the less flour the better. I usually mix with my mixer as long as possible then take out about 1/3 of dough and work in flour on board. Sprinkle flour on top; roll to 1/2 inch thick; cut with large round cutter and somehow get it on a greased baking sheet. When they're stiff with flour, they look nice but we don't care for the looks - we like them thick and soft. This is how my grandmother gave me the instructions. |
