2 c. gum drops
1 tsp. flour (to coat gum drops)
1/3 c. shortening
1/3 c. butter, softened
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. brown sugar
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
1 3/4 c. flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt

Cut gum drops into small pieces and coat with 1 teaspoon flour. (Shake gum drops and flour in small plastic bag.) Blend shortening, butter, and sugars then add egg and vanilla. Stir in flour, soda and salt. Stir in cut up gum drops. Drop by teaspoonfuls onto cookie sheet. Bake for 10 minutes at 350 degrees. Allow cookies to cool slightly before removing from cookie sheet. Makes about 3 dozen.
