HOLIDAY FRUIT COOKIES 
1 1/2 c. brown sugar
1 c. Crisco shortening
3 beaten eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
2 lbs. dates, cut fine
1/2 lb. candied cherries, cut in fourths
3 slices candied pineapple, cut fine
3 c. chopped nuts

Cream the brown sugar and shortening together. Add the eggs and vanilla. Sift together the flour, soda and salt and add to the previous mixture. Mix the dates, cherries, pineapple, and nuts together with an additional 1/2 cup flour. Add the fruit mixture to the other batter. Shape into balls and flatten. Bake at 350 degrees for about 15 minutes.
