ALMOST REAL FRENCH BREAD 
1 pkg. yeast
1 c. lukewarm water
1 tbsp. sugar
2 tsp. salt
5 to 6 tbsp. warm water
4 c. flour

Sprinkle yeast over 1 cup lukewarm water. Sift flour, sugar, salt together. Stir in yeast mixture. Add remaining water. Work dough hard until mixture is a smooth, sticky, firm ball of dough. Let rise until double in bulk. Punch down and knead on lightly floured board until smooth and springy. Shape into 2 loaves. Brush with melted butter. Let rise until double. Bake at 400 degrees for 35 to 40 minutes.
