BRAN MUFFIN MIX 
2 c. 100% bran
2 c. boiling water
1 c. shortening
2 c. sugar
4 eggs, beaten
1 qt. buttermilk
4 c. all bran
5 c. flour
5 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
2/3 c. wheat germ (opt.)

Combine 2 cups bran and boiling water and let stand. Cream shortening and sugar. Add the egg, buttermilk, 4 cups all bran, 2 cups soaked bran; let stand while sifting flour, soda and salt. Combine all and fold in 1 pound raisins or currants (optional). Bake at 400 degrees for 15 to 18 minutes. Can be refrigerated up to six weeks.
