PEPPER NUTS 
4 c. dark Karo syrup
1 c. white sugar
1 c. butter
1 1/2 c. Crisco
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/2 tsp. allspice
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 tbsp. anise seed
11 c. flour

Combine first 4 ingredients in saucepan and bring to boil; cool. Add spices; mix in flour. Let stand overnight. In morning, roll into long rolls about 1- inch in diameter. Cut into pieces 1/2-inch wide. Bake at 360 degrees.

If they don't keep their nice rounded shape, add more flour.
