DATE AND NUT BREAD 
1 c. hot water
1 c. chopped dates
4 tbsp. butter, soft
1 c. sugar
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
1 2/3 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 c. chopped nuts

Pour hot water over dates and baking soda. Let stand until cool. Cream sugar, egg, butter, and vanilla. Mix flour and baking powder with creamed ingredients. Mix well. Add chopped nuts. Pour into greased and floured loaf pans. Bake 40-50 minutes at 350 degrees. Serve with cream cheese and pineapple spread.
