GRANNY'S CHOCOLATE CAKE 
1 c. butter
2 c. sugar
2 eggs

Cream above until light and fluffy. Add 1 teaspoon vanilla. Add soda (1 heaping teaspoon) dissolved in 1 cup buttermilk alternately with 2 1/2 cups flour and 1/4 teaspoon salt. Add 2/3 cup cocoa dissolved in 1/2 cup boiling water to batter. Mix well. Bake in 325 degree oven.

FROSTING:

1/2 c. cocoa
2 c. sugar
1/2 c. milk (I use cream or evaporated)
2 sticks butter
Vanilla

Cook until frosting holds together when dropped in cold water. Add vanilla and beat until spreading consistency.
