MRS. KRAFT'S BATTER 
1 c. white or yellow corn meal
1 c. flour
1 tbsp. cornstarch
1 tsp. baking powder
1 egg
3/4 c. milk
1 c. water

Mix the first 5 ingredients together well. Mix egg, milk and water well, then pour in dry ingredients and mix well again. Let the batter stand 15 to 20 minutes. Place fish or shrimp on a platter. Salt and pepper to taste. Dip into batter. Fry in hot (350 degrees) oil 2 to 3 inches deep.
