GOURMET POUND CAKE 
2 sticks (1 c.) butter, softened
1 2/3 c. sugar
5 lg. eggs
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
2 c. all-purpose flour

With an electric mixer, cream butter; beat in sugar a little at a time and beat mixture until it is light and fluffy. Add eggs, 1 at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in flour sifted with salt in batches. Add vanilla.

Turn batter (very thick) into buttered and floured 2 quart tube pan and bake at 300 degrees for 1 hour and 30 minutes or until tester (toothpick) comes out clean. Cool cake in pan on rack for 15 minutes. Invert on rack or plate. Cool. Serves 12 to 15 slices.
