WILTON'S VANILLA BUTTERCREAM
ICING
 
1/2 c. butter
1/2 c. vegetable shortening
1 tsp. vanilla extract
4 c. confectioners' sugar (10X)
2 tbsp. milk

Cream butter and shortening with electric mixer. Add vanilla extract and milk. Add sugar 1 cup at a time and beat until light and fluffy. Can be refrigerated for up to 2 weeks, let soften before using.

Chocolate Icing:

Add 3/4 cup cocoa powder and an additional 1-2 tablespoons milk to vanilla recipe.

I use this constantly but use all butter and add 4 more tbs cream (with the milk) to get to spreading consistancy. I whip it till it is super creamy. If you want to use it for decorating, don't beat as much, just till combined as you don't want air bubbles in your pasrty bag.

Simple but delicious frosting.
