APPLE SQUARES 
4 c. sifted flour
1/4 c. butter
1 c. vegetable shortening or butter
1 tsp. salt
2 tsp. baking powder
1 c. sugar
2 egg yolks or whole eggs
3/4 c. milk

Cut shortening and butter into flour, salt, baking powder and sugar. Add eggs and milk. Divide in 4 parts and roll out each to fit 9x13 inch pan. Put one piece in each of 2 pans and cover with the other pieces over apple filling.

FILLING:

3 lb. cooking apples, peeled and sliced
1/2 c. seedless raisins
1/2 c. sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tbsp. lemon juice

Put apples on dough in pan, cover with sugar, cinnamon, raisins and lemon juice. Put other dough piece over and bake at 350 degrees until apples are done, about 50-60 minutes. Frost with thin icing while warm and cut in squares. This makes a large recipe, can be cut in half.
