NIKUJAGA (FLAVORED MEAT AND
POTATOES)
 
4 med. potatoes
7 oz. beef or pork, thinly sliced
2 tbsp. sugar
2 tbsp. soy sauce
2 tbsp. sake (Japanese rice wine)

Pare potatoes and cut into 4-6 pieces. Soak in water for 5 minutes. Cut thinly sliced meat into 2-inch pieces.

Mix sugar, soy sauce, and sake, and bring to a boil. Add meat and bring to a boil again. Add potatoes and water to cover and bring to a boil again. Then lower heat and simmer until potatoes are cooked.
