AUNT PAULINE'S CUSTARD BREAD
PUDDING
 
2 c. soft bread cubes
1 qt. milk
2 eggs
1/3 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. nutmeg or cinnamon
1/4 c. melted butter

Add bread cubes to the milk. Heat to scalding. Beat eggs slightly. Add sugar and salt and mix thoroughly. Gradually stir in scalded milk mixture, vanilla, nutmeg or cinnamon and butter. Pour into a greased 1 1/2 quart baking dish. Set in a pan of warm water. Bake in 350 degrees oven for 75 minutes or until knife inserted comes out clean. Eggs may be increased to 3 or 4 in which case baking time may be reduced. Sugar may be increased to 1/2 cup. Serve with whip cream when cold.
