TEMPURA BATTER NO. 1 
1 tbsp. vegetable oil
1/2 c. all-purpose flour
1/4 c. water
1/4 c. cornstarch
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking soda

Mix ingredients into batter and dip whatever you like; such as vegetables, onion rings, squash cut French fry style, mushrooms, shrimp, etc. into batter, letting excess drop off. Cook in deep hot fat (350°F to 365°F) until tender and browned. Drain on paper towel and serve warm.

Note: A light coating of flour on shrimp or vegetables will allow batter to adhere better.
