OATMEAL CAKE 
1 1/2 c. boiling water
1 c. quick oats
2 eggs
1 c. brown sugar
1 c. white sugar
1 1/2 c. plain flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 c. shortening
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. salt

Boil water and pour over oats; let stand 15 minutes. Cream sugar and eggs. add other ingredients and mix well. Add oats. Pour into greased oblong pan. Bake 30 minutes at 325 degrees. Remove from oven and top with mixture of 1/2 cup brown sugar, 1/4 cup evaporated milk, 1/2 teaspoon vanilla, 1 cup nuts and 1 cup coconut. Put under broiler until browned - watch - don't burn.

This cake is delicious and very moist. My grandmother used to make this in the 1960s. It was always wonderful!
