1 c. white sugar
1 c. brown sugar
1 c. shortening
1 1/2 c. unsweetened applesauce
3 c. flour
1 egg
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda, dissolved in 1/4 c. hot water
1 c. raisins
1 c. nutmeats

Cream shortening and sugar, add applesauce and egg. Add sifted flour and spices, soda in water, raisins and nuts. Bake in greased and floured pan (9 x 13), 30 to 35 minutes at 350 degrees.
