BEST SUNDAY BISCUITS 
2 c. flour
4 tbsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
1/2 tsp. salt
2 tbsp. sugar
1 1/2 c. shortening
1 unbeaten egg
2/3 c. buttermilk or milk

Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Sift flour, baking powder, salt and sugar into bowl. Add shortening to dry ingredients and blend well until texture of cornmeal. Add milk slowly, then egg. Stir until a stiff dough.

Knead 6 strokes. Roll on floured surface to 1/2-inch thick. Cut biscuits and place on buttered cookie sheet and bake 10-15 minutes until golden brown.
