BEST BISCUITS 
2 c. sifted flour
4 tsp. baking powder
2 tsp. sugar
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
1/3 c. lard or 1/2 c. vegetable shortening
2/3 - 3/4 c. milk (I prefer 3/4 c.)

Sift dry ingredients together. Blend in shortening, add milk all at once and beat hard. Turn out on floured bread board and knead at least 10 times. Roll as thin as desired and cut and bake in 425 degree oven.
