MOM'S BUTTERHORNS | |
1 c. Crisco 1 c. milk 2 pkg. yeast 1 tsp. salt 2 eggs 4 c. flour 3 tbsp. sugar Heat the Crisco and milk until shortening is melted. Set aside to cool to lukewarm. Stir yeast with warm water and sprinkle sugar on top, letting it dissolve. Beat eggs in large bowl. Add yeast and milk mixtures. Stir in flour and salt. Set bowl in warm place and let rise until double in size. Divide dough in half. Roll each half into a large circle approximately 1/4 inch thick. Using butter, butter the dough generously. Cut into 3 inch wide pie shaped pieces. Roll each piece, beginning at the large end. Place on cookie sheet, let rise. Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Bake 5 minutes at 400 degrees, reduce temperature to 350 degrees and bake an additional 15 minutes. Frost with powdered sugar frosting when cool. |
