SHORT CAKE 
2 c. flour
2 tbsp. sugar
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
3 tbsp. shortening
1/2 c. milk
1 egg

Beat eggs slightly. Add milk. Sift dry ingredients into bowl. Cut in shortening. Add egg and milk. Knead lightly 20 seconds on floured board. Cut into desired size short cake biscuits. Makes 8-12.

Serve with strawberries or peaches. This may be baked in a nine inch layer pan in a hot oven (425 degrees) about 30 minutes. For biscuits - about 12-15 minutes, depending on size made.
