APPLE-OATMEAL CRUNCH
1. 4-5 med. sized tart apples, cored, peeled, and thinly sliced
2. 6 tbsp. firmly-packed brown sugar
3. 6 tbsp. granulated sugar
4. 1/2 c. unsifted all-purpose flour
5. 3/4 c. uncooked quick cooking rolled oats
6. 1/2 c. (1 stick) butter, melted
7. 1/2 c. water
8. 1 c. heavy whipping cream, whipped, or 1 pt. vanilla ice cream (optional)

1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Spread the sliced apples over the bottom of a greased 8 x 8 x 2 inch baking dish.

2. In a mixing bowl, combine both sugars, flour and oats, then stir in butter. Spread this mixture over the apples. Pour the water over the top.

3. Bake, uncovered, until the apples are tender - about 30 minutes. Serve warm or at room temperature with the whipped cream or ice cream, if desired.

(Tip: Mix in 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon and 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg with the flour, sugar and oats).
