OUR GRANNY'S BARBECUE SAUCE | |
1 onion, chopped or diced 2 tbsp. butter 2 tbsp. vinegar 2 tbsp. brown sugar (light or dark) 4 tbsp. lemon juice 1 cup ketchup (Hunts) 3 tbsp. Worcestershire sauce 1 tsp. prepared mustard 1/2 cup water 1/2 cup chopped celery pinch or so of salt, to taste pinch or so of pepper, to taste cayenne pepper, to taste (optional) In a large skillet melt butter and sauté onion until tender. Add all remaining ingredients and simmer for 30 minutes. VARIATIONS: Go ahead and add some honey for a different flavor OR a clove (or 2) of garlic if you wish. I find a great deal of flexibility with this recipe. It depends on your tastebuds. SUGGESTIONS: I use this BBQ sauce for leftover chicken, leftover pork, leftover beef, pot roast and lots of other things. What I do is debone the already cooked leftover meat, add the meat to the sauce as prepared above and simmer it nice and slow for an hour or two. The meat becomes super moist and very flavorful. GREAT WITH PORK - pulled pork sandwiches, over rice... etc. We make BBQ hamburgers by making hamburger patties in a fry pan, grill until done, make the BBQ sauce as described above THEN put the hamburger patties with a double batch of sauce in a Crock-Pot and let the hamburger patties soak up the sauce for 4 to 6 hours on low. Great BBQ flavor in my opinion. Enjoy all! Submitted by: Douglas Morgan |
