APPLESAUCE CAKE 
1/2 c. shortening
1 3/4 c. sugar
1 egg
1 1/2 c. applesauce
1/2 c. boiling water
1 c. raisins
2 1/2 c. flour (plain)
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. allspice
2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 c. nuts (black walnuts)

Cream the shortening and add the sugar gradually. Add the well beaten egg, then the applesauce. Sift the flour with the dry ingredients. Add the water and the flour ingredients alternately. Add the raisins and nuts last. Bake 1 hour in moderate oven 350 degrees until done. Use tube pan well greased with wax paper in bottom.
