APPLESAUCE SPICE CAKE
2 1/2 c. flour
2 c. sugar
2 c. applesauce
1/2 c. Crisco (I use butter flavored), room temp.
1/2 c. water
2 eggs, beaten to blend
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. ground cloves
1/2 tsp. allspice
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1 c. chopped walnuts
1 c. raisins

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour 2 (9") round pans. Combine all ingredients, except nuts and raisins, in the bowl of an electric mixer and beat well. Stir in raisins and walnuts. Turn into pans, spreading evenly. Bake 30 to 35 minutes until toothpick comes out clean. Cool completely.

FROSTING:

3/4 c. c. (1 1/2 sticks) butter, room temp.
5 c. sifted powdered sugar
1/4 c. milk
2 tsp. vanilla

Using an electric mixer, beat butter until fluffy, 3 to 4 minutes. Add remaining ingredients, beat 3 minutes until smooth.
