SPICY FRUIT CRUMBLE | |
1 1/2 lb. cooking apples 1/3 c. brown sugar 1/2 tsp. ground cloves 1/4 c. raisins 1/3 c. butter 1 c. whole wheat flour 1/2 tsp. ground cloves 1/4 c. brown sugar Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Carefully peel the apples. Cut each into quarters and remove the cores. Cut each quarter into thin slices and put them in the dish. Mix 1/3 cup brown sugar and 1/2 teaspoon cloves and the raisins. Add to the apples. Put the lid on the dish and place in the oven. Cook for 25 minutes. Meanwhile, mix the flour, 1/2 teaspoon cloves and 1/4 teaspoon cloves and 1/4 cup brown sugar. With your fingertips, rub the butter into the flour mixture until it is so small that the mixture looks a bit like bread crumbs. Lift the dish out of the oven and place it on a heat-proof work surface. Lift off the lid and sprinkle with flour mixture topping over the apples. Bake the crumble uncovered for 25 minutes more. Then, carefully lift out of the oven. |
