GRANDMA'S BREAD
2 1/2 pkg. dry yeast
2 c. milk
1/3 c. sugar
1 tsp. salt
3/4 c. butter (softened)
1 1/2 c. cold water
1/2 c. water
8 to 9 c. flour

Place yeast in a small bowl with 1/2 cup of water and a pinch of sugar. Heat milk to a low boil and pour into a large mixing bow. Add salt and butter. Stir until butter is melted. Then add cold water. Stir in yeast only when milk is lukewarm. Start adding flour until it is too stiff to beat.

Mix with a spoon until you can pour it out and start kneading. Knead for 5 minute and return to bowl, greased very lightly. Allow to rise for 30 to 45 minutes. Punch down and let rise again. Turn out dough and knead for 5 minutes.

Cut dough into 2 to 3 loaves, depending on pan size. Spray pan with no-stick spray. Roll each loaf tightly and tuck in edges. Place in pan and let rise for 20 to 30 minutes. Bake at 350 degrees for 40 to 50 minutes. Cool on a rack.
