WHOLE WHEAT BISCUITS | |
1 c. whole wheat flour 1 c. all-purpose flour 1 tbsp. baking powder 1/2 tsp. baking soda 1/2 tsp. salt 1/2 c. shortening 3/4 c. buttermilk Combine first 5 ingredients, mixing well; cut in shortening until mixture resembled coarse meal. Add buttermilk to dry ingredients, stirring until dry ingredients are moistened. Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface; knead lightly 4 to 5 times. Roll dough to 1/2-inch thickness; cut with a 2 3/4-inch biscuit cutter. Place biscuits on an ungreased baking sheet. Bake at 450 degrees for 10 minutes or until browned. Yield: 1 dozen. |
