ORIENTAL PEPPER STEAK | |
1 1/2 lbs. beef (sirloin or rib) 1 1/2 tsp. monosodium glutamate, divided 1/4 c. salad oil 1 c. bouillon 1/2 tsp. sugar 1/4 tsp. ginger 1 tsp. soy sauce 2 green peppers, cut in strips 1 med. onion, sliced 2 tomatoes, peeled & cut into wedges 2 tsp. cornstarch 2 tbsp. water Sprinkle beef with 1 teaspoon monosodium glutamate. Brown beef in hot oil in skillet. Add bouillon, sugar, ginger and soy sauce. Bring to a boil; reduce heat and simmer 15 minutes. Add vegetables. Sprinkle with remaining monosodium glutamate. Cook 5 minutes longer. Combine cornstarch and water. Stir until smooth. Gradually add to beef mixture and cook, stirring constantly, until mixture thickens and comes to a boil. Serve with hot cooked rice. Six servings. |
