PFEFFERNUSSE 
1 c. chopped raisins
1 c. Brazil nuts
1/2 c. almonds
1 c. citron
1/3 c. butter
1 1/4 c. brown sugar
1 egg
3 1/4 c. flour
3/4 tsp. baking powder
1/3 tsp. nutmeg
1/3 tsp. cloves
1/3 tsp. allspice
3/4 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 c. warm water
1/3 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. anise oil
1 c. sugar
1/2 c. water
Powdered sugar

Grind raisins, add nuts and citron. Set aside. Cream butter and sugar and add egg. Sift dry ingredients and add alternately to creamed mixture with warm water to which soda has been added. Add anise, ground nuts and fruit. Chill dough. Form into walnut sized balls. Bake 18 minutes at 350 degrees. Boil 1 cup sugar with 1/2 cup water. Roll baked cookies in sugar mixture; then sifted powdered sugar. Makes 5 dozen.
