1/2 c. butter
1 c. sugar
1 egg
2 c. plain flour
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. baking soda

Cream butter and sugar and add eggs. Mix flour and soda. Mix with other ingredients. Add vanilla. Knead in a floured bowl until stiff enough to roll on floured board. Cut into shape and cook at 350 degrees until brown.
