PINEAPPLE BLITZ TORTE | |
1/2 c. shortening 1/2 c. sugar 4 egg yolks 2/3 c. sifted flour 1/4 tsp. salt 1 tsp. baking powder 1/4 c. milk 4 egg whites 3/4 c. sugar 1 tsp. vanilla Slivered almonds Cream shortening and sugar Add egg yolks, sifted flour, salt, baking powder and milk. Mix in order given and spread in 2 (9 inch) cake pans lined with waxed paper. Beat 4 egg whites until stiff. Fold in sugar and vanilla. Spread on unbaked batter. Sprinkle slivered almonds on top. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes Cool. Put together with meringue sides away, with filling in the middle. FILLING: 1 c. whipped cream 1 c. crushed pineapple, drained 1 1/4 tbsp. sugar 1/4 tsp. vanilla Fold pineapple, sugar and vanilla into whipped cream. Serves 10. |
