PEANUT BUTTER COOKIES 
1/2 c soft shortening (half butter)
1/2 c peanut butter
1/2 c sugar
1/2 c brown sugar (packed)
1 egg
1/2 tsp baking powder
1 1/4 c sifted flour
3/4 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp salt

Mix thoroughly peanut butter, sugar, brown sugar, and egg. Sift together and stir in flour, baking powder, soda, and salt. Chill dough. Roll into balls size of large walnuts. Place 3 inch apart on lightly greased baking sheet. Flatten with fork dipped in flour, criss-cross.

Bake until set but not hard, at 325°F for 12 to 15 minutes.
