SCALLOPED HAM AND POTATOES 
6 medium potatoes sliced very thin
2 c. cooked ham strips
1 medium onion, chopped fine
2 tbsp. butter, melted
3/4 c. grated cheese
1/2 c. fine dry bread crumbs
Thin White Sauce

Thin White Sauce:

3 tbsp. butter
3 tbsp. flour
3 c. milk
3/4 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. pepper

Make thin white sauce by melting 3 tablespoons butter and stirring in flour. Gradually stir in milk, keeping mixture smooth. Add salt and pepper. Cook, stirring constantly, until thickened and bubbly. Set aside.

Spread a layer of potatoes in a buttered 2-quart casserole; sprinkle some of onion. Add layer of ham. Continue to alternate, ending with potatoes. Pour white sauce over the top, letting it run down into mixture. Mix crumbs and the 2 tablespoons melted butter, then with cheese. Sprinkle this over top.

Bake, uncovered, at 350°F for 1 1/2 hours.
