VERMONT MAPLE COOKIES | |
1/2 c. shortening 2 eggs 1 tbsp. maple flavoring 1/2 tsp. baking soda 1 c. nuts, chopped 1 1/2 c. brown sugar 1 c. commercial sour cream 2 3/4 c. flour 1 tsp. salt Mix shortening, brown sugar, eggs and maple flavoring until creamy. Add sour cream. Stir together flour, baking soda and salt. Blend into the shortening and sugar mixture. Mix until smooth. Mix in nuts. Chill dough, if soft. Heat oven to 375 degrees. Drop rounded tablespoonfuls of dough, 2 inches apart, on greased baking sheet. Bake 10 minutes, or until imprint remains when touched lightly. When cooled, spread Maple Butter Glaze on. MAPLE BUTTER GLAZE: Heat 1/2 cup butter until golden brown. Blend in 2 cups powdered sugar and 2 tablespoons maple flavoring. Stir in 2 to 4 tablespoons hot water until icing spreads smoothly. |
