HOMESTEAD HAMBURGER SOUP 
1 lb. ground beef
1 c. chopped onion
1 c. diced potatoes
1 c. sliced carrots
1 c. shredded cabbage
1 c. sliced celery
1/4 c. raw rice or wild rice
3 c. water
1 beef bouillon cube
1 tsp. garlic salt
1/4 tsp. basil
1/4 tsp. thyme
1 bay leaf
1 qt. whole tomatoes, drained

Brown ground beef and onion. Drain off excess fat. Add remaining ingredients. Stir so tomatoes become slightly mixed. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 1 hour. Adjust seasonings. If wild rice is used, it is best to pre-cook wild rice.
